    The Anatomy of a Speq

Introducing SPEQ: Two Engineering Leaders Join Forces

    11/3/25

After leading large-scale development teams at Fortune 500 retailers, we've seen the same challenges repeatedly: miscommunication between stakeholders, ambiguous requirements, and specs that become outdated the moment they're written. As AI coding tools accelerate development, these problems are only intensifying.

That's why we're joining forces to build SPEQ—an AI-powered platform that makes specifications a living part of the software development process, not just static documentation.

    Our Partnership

Dylan Wood spent over 9 years at Walmart Global Tech, rising to Director of Engineering for Item Page Experiences, building solutions that served millions of users daily. Before that, he led software development at a neuroinformatics research institute.

Weston Ostler most recently served as Director of Engineering at Target, leading iOS and Android development for search. Previously, he spent nearly a decade at Walmart Global Tech as an engineer, lead, and engineering leader, leading multiple teams on high-stakes, high-impact projects.

Our paths crossed as engineering leaders at Walmart, where we developed deep respect for each other's technical abilities and leadership. When we both decided to pursue entrepreneurial ambitions, partnering to solve one of software development's most persistent problems was an easy decision.

    What is Spec-Driven Development?

Spec-Driven Development (SDD) places comprehensive, living specifications at the center of software development. Rather than treating specs as documents that quickly go stale, SDD maintains them as the evolving source of truth alongside your code. SPEQ uses Agentic AI to keep specifications synchronized, validate implementations, and ensure everyone—human developers and AI tools alike—stays aligned on what's being built.

    Building in the Open

We're building SPEQ using our own SDD methodology and will share regular updates—milestones, challenges, and lessons learned. SPEQ will launch to a limited audience in early 2026, and we're excited to learn from early adopters.
